Article I
Time and place of meetings
The time and place of meetings of this chapter of the National BETA Club shall be decided upon only after consultation with, and upon the approval of the executive head of the Malden High School.
The meeting of this chapter of the National BETA Club shall be held on a regular basis at a scheduled location.
Article II
Quorum
A quorum of this organization shall be constituted by a majority of the membership. No action may be taken which is binding upon the membership unless a quorum is present. However, certain matters-such as a program, etc.-may be carried on at a regular or special meeting without a quorum being present.
Article III
Standard of Membership
Standards of membership in the Malden High School chapter of the National BETA Club must conform to the general features as laid down in the National Constitution, and in all cases must be approved by the executive head of the Malden High School.
Scholastically, these prospective members must have an overall B average in all subjects which count one credit each for the three consecutive quarters and must also exhibit good grades in the club’s activities, and in the betterment of Malden High School.
Article IV
Induction of Members
The induction of new members into the membership of this chapter of the National BETA Club shall be one of the dignities appropriate to the ideals of the organization. Any pre-induction initiation activity must be submitted to and approved by the executive head of the Malden High School. They must not be of a nature to cause physical pain or mental embarrassment to the initiate.
The ceremony for accepting the new members will take place during the fourth quarter. This will be the only time new members will be inducted to this chapter of the National BETA club. (Mandatory attendance for all current and incoming BETA members)
Article V
Projects and Activities
Members are expected to participate in each and every project and activity the club assumes. A member may miss no more than one activity without jeopardizing his/her standing. A member must sell no less than 10 magazine subscriptions to be able to attend the state convention.
Article VI
Loss of membership
A member of this chapter of the National BETA Club may be dropped from membership if he/she is absent without a justifiable reason from three regular meetings. Any absence that is not clarified from status by the member will be marked unexcused.
A member of this chapter of the National BETA Club may be dropped from membership if his/her scholastic record falls below an 8.0 average for two consecutive quarters.
No member of this chapter may be dropped from membership for scholastic deficiency without being accorded a probationary of one quarter to raise his/her scholastic record to the 8.0 average required for membership. During the probation, the member is still expected to participate in all club activities.
A committee consisting of the BETA sponsor, the Executive committee of the BETA Club, and faculty members selected by the BETA sponsor may drop a member from membership for lack of participation, scholastic, moral, disciplinary, or any other reasons that are deemed to be sufficient.
A student so dropped from membership may be reinstated provided he/she meets the requirements laid down in the Constitution and the By-laws of this chapter of the National BETA Club.
If a member who has been dropped is later reinstated, he/she will not be required to pay the national certificate fee again.
If and when a member is dropped from membership, a record of this action shall be relayed to the National office of the National BETA Club immediately.
Article VII
Service Project
This chapter of the BETA Club will undertake a program of service, which will be of benefit to the Malden High School and the Malden Community. This project shall be decided upon only after consultation with, and upon approval of, the executive head of the high school.
Article VIII
Local dues and assessments
The local dues of this chapter of the National BETA Club shall be 50 cents per year.
Assessment may be made upon the membership to defray the cost of special undertaking. A fine of 50 cents shall be imposed upon any member arriving at a regular meeting after the meeting has been called to order.
Article IX
Sponsor
The club sponsors shall be a faculty members of Malden R-l Schools. Co-sponsors are permitted.
Article X
State Convention
It shall be the aim of this club to send delegates to the annual state convention. The amount of expenses paid by the club shall be given by the President at the last meeting of the year.
If a member missed the scholastic requirements the preceding quarter or has not earned the required points, the member may not attend the convention.
Any member wanting to attend the state convention must sell no less than 10 magazines subscriptions during the annual magazine drive.
Article XI
National Convention
It shall be the aim of the club to send those eligible to national convention. This includes candidate winners, their skit participants, any talent winners, or any individual competition winners.
Any member wanting to attend the national convention must meet all fundraising requirements and must meet scholastic requirements the fourth quarter.
Article XII
State and National Convention Behavior Requirements
All members attending state and/or national convention must act according to the BETA Code of Conduct. Any behavior deemed inappropriate by the sponsor or chaperones that results in the club being disqualified or the member being sent home will result in the member or members being ineligible for BETA Club membership for the remainder of their high school career.
Article XIII
Senior Scholarships
Four scholarships of $200.00 each will be given to four senior BETA members. These recipients will be elected by the entire club through a secret ballot process. Each recipient must be in good standing and complete at least 12 hours per semester of college study with a 2.5 or better grade point average. One hundred dollars will be given after the first semester and one hundred dollars after the second semester if these conditions have been met.
Article XIV
Cheating
Any student reported to the BETA sponsor for cheating will be put on disciplinary probation. Fifteen hours of community service will be performed and a disciplinary school contract will be signed by the student. |
